Year: Senior
From the time I was a young girl, I was always fascinated with taking things apart and discovering how they worked. However, I did not decide to pursue a career in materials science and engineering until my junior year of high school. I made this decision after participating in a University of Maryland summer program geared towards high school females interested in engineering (E2 @UMD). The Clark School of Engineering provides a number of resources, such as support groups and honors programs, which help its students excel once they arrive to the university. I am an active member of the Society of Women Engineers, the National Society of Black Engineers, Tau Beta Pi, and the Quality Enhancement Systems and Teams Program. I am also the president of the Materials Science and Engineering student chapter. Outside of the engineering school, I am a member of the University Honors Program, Terrapin Photography Club, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Golden Key International Honour Society. I am also a photographer for the University of Maryland Yearbook. Through the resources provided by the Engineering Co-op and Career Services Office, I have also had the opportunity to intern with the Magnetic Materials Group at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, and, most recently, with the Materials Section of the ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company at the Downstream headquarters in Fairfax, VA.
