Wouldn't it be amazing to be able to drive over a roadway or bridge that you once helped to design? Or to pass by a skyscraper 20 years from now and say, "Yea, I designed that." For me, the greatest thing about being an engineer is the tremendous public impact we have on our communities and the individuals within them for years to come. As a high school student, I always loved math and science, so engineering-particularly civil engineering at Maryland -was the ideal fit. Years later-with the help of my coursework and extra-curricular experiences here at UMD-my goal of building soaring buildings and vast bridges no longer seems so far-fetched.

One of the great aspects of being a student here at the Clark School is the availability of an array of extra-curricular and career-related opportunities. As a sophomore, I worked as a camp counselor in the Women In Engineering (WIE) summer program, Stepping Stones to Your Future, geared toward middle school students interested in engineering. As a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), I got a chance to help build a 20-fot long concrete canoe that we actually raced! Also, as a student in the Engineering Honors Program (EHP), I am beginning a research project on fire-related structural failures. Lastly, I am currently president of Chi-Epsilon, the National Civil Engineering Honor Society, and the Vice-Presidents of Membership of ASCE.

My work experience includes two fantastic summer internships-one in a local land development/civil engineering firm and the other in a regional full-service structural design firm. In my spare time, I enjoy playing and watching soccer and tennis, listening to music, and traveling.
