President

Sidney Ngochi

Sidney is a senior Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Maryland College Park. His plans for the future are to get into the planning and administration of up-stream projects and initiatives for a global company. Sidney credits his ability to see and act towards the bigger picture as the most valuable asset he brings to his position. He plans to bring BES to the fore front of the Engineering Community by increasing our visibility, working with other student organizations and local chapters, increasing our availability to our PCI chapters, and having fun working with our E-board in the process.



Vice President

Victor Nwaneri

Victor is a senior Mechanical Engineering major with a focus in Design and Reliability Engineering and is minoring in Project Management at the University of Maryland College Park. He is also a ASME member, South Campus Commons Building 1 RA, Theta Tau Professional Engineering fraternity inductee and Research Assistant on Polymer Processing with the Mechanical Engineering Department. He has high aspirations in pursuing Masters in both Engineering (possibly in environmental management or petroleum engineering) and Business Administration. His interest lies in the industry of Alternative Energy and Fuel with an emphasis on research, development, and new product development pertaining to greenhouse emissions and fuel cell technological improvements. He wishes to someday climb the corporate ladder to becoming a business development manager or CEO for a technical-driven/environmentally sound company. As the BES Vice President for the 2008-2009 school year, he plans to develop a firm and effective platform of the operations and execution of the society’s ideas and initiatives. He wishes to exhibit his leadership skills, innovative programming, community servility, and enthusiasm as an effort to fully support the missions and needs of both BES and the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE).

Chima Ebinama

Chima is a Junior Computer Science major and an intended Computer Engineering major at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is also a Resident Assistant in Hagerstown Hall, a College Park Scholar of the Advocates for Children division, and an Office Assistant of the A. James Clark School of Engineering Center for Minorities in Science and Engineering. Using the education he receives from the university Chima wishes to pursue a career in computer design and or computer networking, where As the BES Treasurer, Chima’s main objective is to keep all financial accounts and transactions in order, and to guarantee that all BES events and travels are run smoothly and according to plans.

Programs Co-Chair

Anthony (Tony) Awojoodu

Anthony is a senior Bioengineer with a focus in Business and Quality Improvement at the University of Maryland College Park. He is also a BMES member, Resident Assistant in Allegany Hall, Primannum Honors Society inductee and member in the UMCP LIVE NOW AIDS campaign. His goals for the future are to obtain a Masters in Bioengineering and go on to obtain his Masters in Business Administration. Anthony hopes to one day be one of the cross-disciplinary engineers who bridges the gap between technology and business through consulting, management and quality improvement. He is interested in the growing field of Bioengineering as a whole, but specifically Biomaterials and drug delivery. As the BES Co-Programs Chair for the 2008-2009 school year, Anthony plans to organize and implement successful programs that increase membership, live out the BES mission and make BES as a chapter a more efficient organization. He also believes that his experience in programming and leadership will be excellent tools for successfully filling the role as Programs Chair. Anthony is very excited about what is to come in the upcoming year with BES!

Joseph Issac

Joseph is a senior Computer Science major at the University of Maryland, College Park. He has been a member of BES/NSBE since fall of 2005. This year on the executive board, He plans to help produce programs that will enrich our members professionaly and socially; and market BES/NSBE to a broader range on our campus. In his spare time, He likes to listen to music, produce music, write/record songs, dance, surf the web, watch movies, and socialize with friends.

Finance Chair

Wesley Jarmon

Wesley is a sophomore Computer Engineering student at the University of Maryland College Park. After graduation, Wesley plans on entering the work force as a Data Analysis Systems Consultant while hopefully pursuing his masters at the same time or shortly after. Wesley’s long term goals include eventually owning his own engineering contracting company. Wesley has been involved with BES since early high school and has big plans for taking the society to new levels of achievement. As Finance Chair, he plans on bringing in as much company partnership support as possible. This way BES members would be able to better formulate exactly who they want to work for, or what it is they want to do when they graduate. Also, more company and outside support will allow more BES members to attend events and programs such as the National Convention where recruiters from all over the country line up waiting to hire engineers. These opportunities will surely help members achieve anything they want to during and post-college, as BES and its mission gets spread to everyone.

Technology Chair

Tristan Dillard

Tristan is a senior Chemical Engineering undergraduate student at the University of Maryland at College Park. He is the Technology Chairperson for the Black Engineers Society. As Technology Chair, he plans to ensure that the computers in the BES lounge are running properly for the members of BES and to ensure that the lounge for BES is secure 24/7 with the information of the members being up-to-date in the database of the door lock. He also plans to help with the test bank to help the members to excel in their academics. After graduation, Tristan wants to pursue for a Masters in Chemical Engineering and currently wants to aid in nanotechnology, polymers, or research and development.

Alexis Adams

Hello Everyone! My name is Alexis Adams and I will be working as one of this chapter's PCI Chairs. Currently I am a senior Bioengineering major at The University of Maryland College Park and I've been a proud member of NSBE since high school. After I recieve my bachelors degree, I plan to pursue a graduate degree program in Biomedical Engineering. As one of the PCI Co-Chairs, I plan to use the leadership skills that I've gained from the organization, to give back to the community and to get young minorities interested in pursuing a degree within the science, technology, engineering and math fields. Tenaya Prince

Tenaya prince is PCI Co-Chair for 2008-2009 academic year. She is presently a senior and has been an active member of NSBE since high school. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. Without her involvement in NSBE she feels she would not have became the person she is today. NSBE has provided her with numerous opportunities in the engineering field, corporate world, and giving back to the community. As PCI Co-Chair she plans to help promote minorities to pursue higher education in the science and technology fields by making our chapters presence known in local middle and high schools. We are always open to hear new program ideas and take any school/programs interested in teaming up with us to help with our Pre-College Initiative.

Academic Excelence Chair

Issac Browne

Isaac Browne is a senior Mechanical Engineering major. He is from Silver Spring, Maryland, and he is the current Academic Excellence Chair. He is also a member of Terrapin Racing and also doubles as the treasurer of the Black Male Initiative. He will serve as the vehicle that will aid in guaranteeing academic success for all our constituents; and with perseverance help to increase the number for Black Engineers in the work force.

Membership Chair

Michael Sweatt

Michael is a senior Electrical Engineer at the University of Maryland, College Park. He is an undergraduate research assistant and a Resident Assistant for incoming freshman and sophomores. After graduation, he eventually wants to go to Graduate School to pursue a Masters in Business Administration or Electrical Engineering; he is unsure at this point. He has had different experiences throughout his college career including several internships from credible companies. Mike wants to share these experiences with other people to help them get a glimpse of the opportunities available. As the membership chair, he plans on increasing the number of active members through programs and corporate sponsored activities to emphasize the importance of being active within the BES or any other organization they may be affiliated. He hopes to encourage and connect to with both members and non-members to increase the visibility of BES on campus and within the surrounding communities.

Grad Student Coordinator

Gleneesha Johnson

Gleneesha is a doctoral student in the Computer Science department at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her research area is computer and network security, with a focus on context-aware security. She has been involved with NSBE since high school and has served on Howard University's e-board as Corresponding Secretary and Historian. As Graduate Student Coordinator, her main goal is to increase the participation of graduate students in BES by working with her fellow e-board members to ensure that programs and activities are interesting and applicable to graduate students.

Steering Chair

Kandice Fields

Kandice is a senior Mechanical Engineering major at the University of Maryland, College Park. She has been an active member of NSBE since high school and has previously served on the BES E-board as Telecommunications Chair. This year on the executive board, she plans to ensure that BES stays on the right course in accordance with the NSBE By-laws, national directives and mission as well as the BES mission and constitution. When she is not busy with classes or other extra-curricular activities, she enjoys singing, listening to music, writing, watching movies with friends and advocating for social justice. Upon graduation, she plans to work in the Aerospace industry before working toward Masters Degree in Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering.

Historian

Rosanna Herman

Rosanna Herman is a senior Civil Engineering student at the University of Maryland. She has an Associates degree in Business and another one in Math from the College of Southern Maryland. She also has a certificate in Computer Aided Drafting. After she gets her Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering she plans on working for a company where she can specialize in transportation systems and project management. After some years of experience, she plans on starting her own business in the civil engineering field and going back to school to get her Master's Degree. As the historian for the 2008-2009 academic year, she plans on using her organization skills as well as her photography skills to capture and display all the BES events.

Telecom Chair

Mekias Yohannes

Mekias is a senior Computer Science and Graphic Design double major at the University of Maryland College Park. He is also a Resident Assistant, Help Desk technician for the Robert H. Smith School of Business, a webmaster for the Ethiopian Students Organization and a webmaster for The Common Thread Show, a local TV show on University of Maryland Television (UMTV). After graduation he plans to work in the internet and computer software industry for a couple of years and plans on going to graduate school for MBA in Project Management and E-Commerce. As the telecom chair, he plans on designing the back and front-end of the BES website. He plans on building a site that would not only present important information but also function as a tool to ease interaction between members, sponsors, and anyone who is affiliated with BES.

Public Relations

Nicole Thomas

Nicole is a junior majoring in Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland College Park. She is a member of the QUEST Honors Fellows Program and a College Park Scholar of Science, Technology, and Society. She is also a Teacher Assistant for a freshman course. After graduation, Nicole plans on entering the engineering work environment through a corporation that allows her to grow professionally and contribute to meaningful projects. Nicole wants to pursue a career in Assistive Technology where her work can help to ease the lives of others. As BES Public Relations Chair Nicole plans to reach one of her chapters essential goals, increasing the footprint of BES on campus, by making sure that the campus community is well informed and interested in BES and view the organization as an open vessel for professional and personal development.

Amanda Musiani

Amanda is a Psychology major and Performing Arts minor at the University of Maryland College Park. Her goals for BES are to increase membership, to increase membership accountibility, and to increase the motivations of members to advance the organization.
