WHAT: By popular demand, the Clark School's "desktop supercomputer" naming contest is now open to non-U.S. residents and those under the age of 18.

"In the spirit of the work behind the invention, which will make supercomputing power more accessible to all users, I wanted all people to have the chance at naming the new computer," said Prof. Uzi Vishkin, who has developed the "desktop supercomputer" based on parallel processing technology.

Previously, the contest rules stated that only U.S. residents over the age of 18 could enter. Already, more than 3,000 names have been submitted and more than 24,000 people have visited the Clark School web site to learn more.

The winning entry will earn the submitter $500 and the distinction of having named this advance in computing technology.

For more information on the invention, please see the full press release online.

WHO: Those under the age of 18 and non-U.S. residents may now participate. The full contest rules and restrictions are available online: http://www.ece.umd.edu/supercomputer/rules.php

HOW: Entries must be submitted online at http://www.ece.umd.edu/supercomputer

WHEN: The deadline to enter is September 15, 2007.

RULES: For the complete set of contest rules, please visit the contest website: http://www.ece.umd.edu/supercomputer
