June 25, 2007 *MEDIA ADVISORY* **UPDATE: NON-U.S. RESIDENTS MAY NOW PARTICIPATE IN THE NAMING CONTEST, AS CAN CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 18, WITH THE PERMISSION OF A PARENT OR GUARDIAN.** Ted Knight WHAT: The public is invited to submit names for a new "desktop supercomputer" invented by Uzi Vishkin, a professor of computer engineering at the University of Maryland's A. James Clark School of Engineering. The technology will allow desktop computers to operate at speeds 100 times faster than today's models thanks to the use of parallel computing on a single chip. Prof. Vishkin will pick the winning name, which he says should reflect the features and bold aspirations of the new machine and its parallel computing capabilities. The winning entry will earn the submitter $500 and the distinction of having named this advance in computing technology. For more information on the invention, please see the full press release.
