*MEDIA ADVISORY* CONTACT: WHAT: A group of high school students is participating in "Catapult Camp: Spring into the Future" at the University of Maryland's A. James Clark School of Engineering. The students are learning about the intricacies of trebuchets, or medieval catapults, and will actually design trebuchets of their own. WHO: Approximately 30 rising 10th, 11th and 12th graders are participating in the camp, which is taught by undergraduate students. The camp is part of a series of similar offerings by the Center for Minorities in Science and Engineering at the Clark School. WHEN: Media are encouraged to attend Friday, June 20, between at 10 a.m. and noon. Students will be working on their trebuchets at that time. NOTE: The above activity leads up to a trebuchet competition on Saturday in which the students participating in the catapult camp above will test their device against those from other teams across the country. Media interested in attending the Saturday competition should refer to this press release. ###
