Alumna to Receive Transportation Award

Alumna Norine Walker, B.S. '81 urban studies and '83 civil engineering, will receive the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) Trailblazer Award.

COMTO will present the award at its 2006 Salute to Women in Transportation Luncheon on March 8 in Washington, D.C.

The event will recognize women who have made significant contributions to the transportation industry in the Washington Metropolitan area. The theme is "Women of Power: Influencing the Quality of Life in Our Region."

Walker was a project manager for the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project and is now starting her own business.

The Trailblazer Award honors candidates who "have distinguished themselves from their peers and have provided precedence, as women, in their given transportation-related fields through their roles and achievements," according to the COMTO web site.
