Sungs Establish Two ChBE Professorships

T.K. "Patrick" Sung (M.S. '69 and Ph.D. '72, chemical engineering) and his wife, Marguerite (B.S. '70, mathematics), have pledged $1.5 million to the Clark School to establish two endowed professorships in chemical and biomolecular engineering.

The couple has also pledged $500,000 to the College of Computer, Mathematical and Physical Sciences to establish an endowed graduate research fellowship in mathematics.

The Sungs both work with Nu Skin Enterprises, Inc., a global, direct-selling marketer of premium quality personal care products.

They met in College Park as UM students, but were both born in China. They hope their gift will start a trend that other Asian-born graduates will continue.

"This is the place that gave us our start, so what better way to show our gratitude," said Dr. Sung.

The two Clark School professorships will be named "The Patrick and Marguerite Sung Professorship in Chemical Engineering" and "The Patrick and Marguerite Sung Distinguished Professorship in Chemical Engineering."
