You're Invited: Innovation Hall of Fame and White Symposium, October 4
We hope you can join us as we induct Raymond J. Krizek, M.S. '61, civil engineering, into the Clark School's Innovation Hall of Fame, October 4 at 4:30 p.m. in the Kim Engineering Building, for his work in geotechnical engineering. The induction ceremony will be immediately followed by the 2007 Charles and Helen White Symposium on Engineering Innovation—"Innovation: Enhancing and Protecting Our Environment."
Cheer on the UM Solar Decathlon Team,
October 12-20
LEAFHouse, the UM entry into the 2007 Solar Decathlon, will be on the National Mall from October 12-20. The public can visit all of the houses on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays (houses will be closed for judging on Oct. 17). Don't forget to vote for the UM house when you visit!
Reunion for the Classes of '47, '57 and '67,
October 18

Great Expectations: Clark School Update
Thanks to gifts from many Clark School alumni, staff, faculty and friends, a professorship fund established in honor of Nariman Farvardin, former Clark School dean and current UM provost, has reached $500,000. The professorship will be used to recruit or retain a professor of engineering. To learn more about the Great Expectations campaign, please contact Steve Beeland.
Contribute to Knight Scholarship to Honor Reliability Benefactor
C. Raymond Knight, formerly of ARINC and supporter of the Clark School's Reliability Engineering Program, passed away in mid-September. Knight established the C. Raymond Knight Endowed Scholarship in 2000 to provide annual awards to students studying reliability engineering. His family asks that donations be made to the scholarship in lieu of flowers. Whiting-Turner Lecture Series Fall Speakers Announced
Please join us for the Fall 2007 Whiting-Turner Lecture Series as it kicks off with Ray Johnson, senior vice president and CTO of Lockheed Martin Corporation and a member of the Clark School’s Board of Visitors, on the evening of Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. in the Kim Engineering Building lecture hall. On November 29, Robert Briskman, Clark School alumnus and co-founder of SIRIUS Satellite Radio will give the next lecture, also at 5 p.m. in the Kim Building lecture hall.

Flavia DeVeny, B.S. '92, aerospace engineering, announced that she is now the vice president of engineering for Martinrea International, Inc., an automotive parts supplier. DeVeny, who received an M.S. in mechanical engineering from Oakland University in Michigan, is married to Jay DeVeny, B.S. '91, mechanical engineering.
Emily Devillier, B.S. '03 and M.S. '06, biological resources engineering, is working for the Army Corps of Engineers as an environmental engineer.
Robert Fishman, Ph.D. '80, mechanical engineering, will become chief executive officer of Ausra, Inc., a developer of utility-scale solar thermal power technology, on October 15. Fishman previously was executive vice president of Calpine Corporation.
Joseph A. Reyes, B.S. '57, electrical engineering, received the 2007 Hector Barreto, Sr. Award at the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce annual convention in September. Reyes is on the Clark School Board of Visitors.
Simarjeet Saini, Ph.D. '01, electrical engineering, has been appointed associate professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Waterloo in Canada.
Herbert K. Struemper, Ph.D. '97, electrical engineering, has been hired as a senior associate scientist by Pharsight Corporation, a provider of software and strategic services for clinical drug development.
Mark Tischler, B.S. '78 and M.S. '79, aerospace engineering, has received the AIAA Aerospace Software Engineering Award, which is presented for outstanding technical and/or management contributions to aeronautical or astronautical software engineering.
