More than 1,000 students, family members, faculty, staff, alumni and friends celebrated at a reception following the Clark School commencement ceremony. The college-wide event was held on the plaza of the Jeong H. Kim Engineering Building. The Engineering Chapter of the Alumni Association coordinated with the departments of aerospace, bioengineering, chemical and biomolecular, civil & environmental, electrical & computer, fire protection, materials science, and mechanical engineering to make the day special.

Third Annual Engineering Golf Tournament a Success!

Everyone had a ball at the 3rd Annual Engineering Alumni Chapter Golf Tournament at the University of Maryland golf course last month. The funds raised will help support the Engineering Alumni Chapter commencement celebration effort and the Engineering Alumni Chapter Scholarship.

Alumni Notes

Kenneth Bell, B.S. ’74, M.S. ’77 and Ph.D. ’83 civil engineering, has been promoted to chief engineer in Bechtel Corporation’s G&HES Group. He has worked for Bechtel for 22 years.

Kristina Lynn Dodson, B.S. ’97 chemical engineering, received an M.B.A. from Johns Hopkins University in May.

Ermis Sfakiyanudis, B.S. ’91 civil engineering, president of ETelemetry, received the Community Service Award, including a check for $1,000, from the Parole (Maryland) Rotary Club for his excellence in volunteer service. Sfakiyanudis has served as the Chairman of the Board of Economic Development for Anne Arundel County for the past seven years. He has generously donated the award money to the Clark School’s Civil Engineering Scholarship Fund.

Phil Wiser, B.S. ’90 electrical engineering and former chief technology officer at Sony, has become chairman and president of Building B, an early-stage, privately held company that is addressing the need to simplify and unify the consumer home entertainment experience.

The Clark School Mourns the Passing of...

We are sad to report the loss of Anson W. Biggs (B.S. ’43 civil engineering), Earle Willard Brown (B.S. ’50 civil engineering), Alfred Zucchi (B.S. ’75 mechanical engineering), Donald L. Coble (B.S. ’65 mechanical engineering) and Jacob S. Worrell (B.S. ’51 mechanical engineering), all of whom passed away recently. Innovation Hall of Fame inductee Frederick S. Billig (Ph.D. ’64 mechanical engineering) passed away on June 2.
