The Institute of Higher Education and Center for World-Class Universities has ranked the Clark School 13th in the world among all engineering programs for 2007, citing research expenditures and articles among criteria.

Ted Leonsis of AOL will kick off the spring Whiting-Turner Business and Entrepreneurial Lecture Series at 5 p.m. on March 29. Art Collins of Medtronic will deliver the final lecture of the academic year at 5 p.m. on May 3. Whiting-Turner lectures are held in the Kim Engineering Building lecture hall. The Clark School is hosting this year's ASCE Concrete Canoe Competition. The team is seeking support for this year's student team and sponsors for the event. Hsu-Wei Fang (M.S. '96 and Ph.D. '03, chemical engineering) has been promoted to associate professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at National Taipei University of Technology in Taiwan.

Ajay Gupta (B.S. '95 and M.S. '98, electrical engineering) recently chaired Maryland Governor Martin O'Malley's cyber security and data privacy transition group.

Steve Haga (B.S. '95, M.S. '99 and Ph.D. '05, electrical engineering) has been appointed assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at National Sun Yat-Sen University in Taiwan.

Ryan D. Leo (B.S. '03, aerospace engineering) is now the lead mass properties engineer for Project Orion at Orbital Sciences Corporation. Leo also reports that he married Talla Rittenhouse (B.S. '03, human resources management) in November 2006.

Joseph H. Necker, Jr. (B.S. '69, civil engineering) is managing the development of BRIDGELAND, a 10,000-acre, master-planned new town, similar to Columbia, Md. The new community will be located outside of Houston, Texas.

Jacqueline M. Reilly (B.S. '03, aerospace engineering), married Stephen Schmoll (B.S. '03, biological resources engineering) in November 2006.

The Clark School Mourns the Passing of ...

Over the past month we learned of the passing of alumni William J. Skillen (B.S. '53, civil engineering) and Alfred J. Rugo (B.S. '49, electrical engineering). We also note the death of Dick Duffy (Ph.D. '56, chemical engineering), professor emeritus who established the school’s nuclear reactor project and served as its director. To read more about Prof. Duffy’s life, please see his obituary.
