Dept of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering alumna Anh Duong (B.S. '82) was recently featured in Newsweek magazine's column The Last Word, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author George F. Will. The column, titled "Anh Duong, Out Of Debt" describes her desire to give back to her adopted country by helping to fight the War on Terror. |

Aerospace engineering alumna Jeanette Epps (M.S. '94 and Ph.D. '00) has been selected as an astronaut in the NASA 2009 candidate class. She will begin training for space flight at the Johnson Space Center in Houston later this summer.

Brenda Freeman
Dept of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (ChBE) alumna and Clark School Women In Engineering (WIE) Advisory Board member Brenda Cornish-Freeman (B.S. '87) has been named to the newly created position of chief marketing officer for Turner Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media, part of the Turner Broadcasting System. She will provide overall vision and leadership to all areas of marketing, on-air and trade creative services that support the cable television networks Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang, along with their on-line businesses, and the digital enterprises GameTap and Super Deluxe. |

Nancy Linton
ECE alumna Nancy Tarlton Linton, a systems engineer at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md., was awarded the 2008 Black Engineer of the Year Award for Outstanding Technical Contribution in Government. The award was presented at the 22nd Black Engineer of the Year Awards Conference in Baltimore, on Feb. 16, 2008. |

Chemical engineering alumna Bonnie Ramey has worked for E. I. DuPont de DeNemours and Co. in Richmond, Va., since she graduated. She earned the corporation's Engineering Excellence Award in 2001 for multivariable control technology implemented in the Nomex(R) paper process. |

Yan Sun
ECE Ph.D. alumna Yan Lindsay Sun '04, an assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Rhode Island, has received a National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award. Dr. Sun, a former advisee of Professor K. J. Ray Liu (ECE/ISR), received the honor for her research initiative, titled "Building Trust in Distributed Networks: Theories, Architecture and Applications." |

Alumna Norine Walker, B.S. '81 urban studies and '83 civil engineering, received the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials Trailblazer Award, in recognition of significant contributions to the transportation industry in the Washington Metropolitan area. Walker was a project manager for the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project. |

Civil engineering alumna Peggy White (B.S. '84) is director of design for christopher consultants, ltd. Licensed in four states, White has served on the Board of Directors of the National Capital Building Industry Association for four years. She oversees land development design of local commerical and residential projects. |

Anh N. Duong (B.S. '82, CHE) received the Clark School's 2009 Distinguished Engineering Alumna Award. The award recognizes an "engineering alumnus who exemplifies the bold visions, bright future and new directions that make them a proud reflection of the leadership that is nurtured and grown at Maryland." Duong, director of the Borders and Maritime Security Division in the Science and Technology Directorate of the Department of Homeland Security, is an internationally recognized expert in explosives currently focusing her efforts on combating terrorism. |
