  • Call for Project Leader Applications for University of Maryland local project

  • The chapter is opening up project leader applications for a new Local Project. This local project will address the issues that the developed world deals with - pollution of streams and groundwater, conservation of natural resources and the environment, among others. While the project is not yet defined in terms of what the specific project will be, possibilities include rain gardens, bioretention, rain water catchment systems, cisterns, pervious pavement. The chapter has been working with the University of Maryland Facilities Management to generate possible sustainable engineering projects that could be completed here on campus. Email ksmark87@gmail.com if you would like more specific details.

The chapter expects to draw on our first successful experience last spring - students implemented the first ever local project in Edmonston, MD. The team of students constructed a Bioretention Area in this small town about 10 minutes from campus. The project was run in much the same way as one of our international projects and was a great success and excellent experience for all students involved as well as for the community.

Candidates will be judged on past leadership experience, desire to shoulder new responsibility and develop new skills, familiarity with EWB's design and implementation method, potential future contribution back to the chapter, and amount of time a candidate can dedicate to the project.

If you are interested as serving as a project leader for this project, please send an application that includes your name, class year, major, and a statement as to why you are interested and qualified to serve as the project leader. Applications should be sent to the chapter President, Kristen Markham, at:

  • We sure to join us on November 9th at 5:30pm in EGR1179 for our next General Body Meeting!

  • Volunteers Needed for Concessions

  • The last two concession stands of the year are on Friday, November 13th and Tuesday, November 17th and we need volunteers. The games are against Charleston and Fairfield respectively. Volunteers should be at the Comcast center at 5pm, but if you have a class and you cannot make it right away, it is alright if you come a few minutes late.

To sign up for the concession stands, email Alex Leishman (leishman3@gmail.com). We are going to need 15-20 volunteers per game, so the more people who sign up, the better. Remember that fundraising participation is taken into consideration when choosing travel teams. Thank you ahead of time for the help.

    International Opportunities Page
EWB is just one part of international life as an engineer. The world is rushing ahead with advances, and the United States must be a full member of that community of education and research and work, or be left behind, as individuals and as a country. Learn about Undergraduate and Graduate opportunities abroad. If you have more opportunities that you would like to share with others, please email us at ewbumd@gmail.com.
