Babatunde Adeyemo (B.S. '07, electrical engineering) has joined the District Department of Transportation's Infrastructure and Project Management division as an electrical engineer. He will be working on projects involving design of lighting systems on bridges and major roadways.

Pinar Akcora (Ph.D. '05, chemical engineering) is an assistant professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Missouri.

Michael Alessi (Ph.D. '04, chemical engineering) is a development engineer with Infineum USA.
Clemens Mathias Arnold (M.Eng. '05) married Aubrey Dane Stock at a ceremony in Handshuhsheim, Germany, last fall.

Rajeev K. Arora (B.S. '00, fire protection engineering) is now executive vice president of Arora Engineers, Inc. in Woodbridge, N.J.

Brian Bacon (B.S. '04, electrical engineering and M.Eng. '08) married Jessica Lynn Crouse earlier this year in Fort Myers Beach, Fla.

Sasan Bakhtiari (M.S. '03, electrical engineering, and M.A. '05 and Ph.D. '08, economics) will join the faculty of the economics department at the University of New South Wales (Australia).

Joseph Barron (B.S. '07, mechanical engineering) is engaged to be married to Dianne Black this November. Barron is a mechanical engineer for Manitowoc Crane Group in Shady Grove, Pa.

R. Joseph Bender (B.S. '06, chemical engineering) is engaged to Rachael Marie Brown, who is also a UM alum. The couple will be married in August 2009.

Cari Bever (M.S. '06, systems engineering) is pursuing a MBA from the University of Rhode Island and is working for Raytheon as a systems engineer. She is engaged to Glenn Wojcik, a software engineer at Raytheon.

Benjamin Bookhultz (B.S. '05, civil engineering) was married to Victoria Smith on May 24. Benjamin is working with Carroll Engineering in Hunt Valley, Md.

Kimberly Brown (M.S. '98 and Ph.D. '05, chemical engineering) reports that her company, Amethyst Technologies, has joined the bwtech@UMBC incubator. Amethyst Technologies provides management, implementation and execution of current good manufacturing practice compliance systems.

Kristin Carter (M.S. '02, mechanical engineering) is an officer at the U.S. Naval Academy

Chris Castell (B.S. '07, aerospace engineering) is working for the Naval Acquisition Center at the Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Va.

Jeffrey H. Chang (B.S. '04, mechanical engineering) has joined Pratt and Whitney as an aerodynamic/thermal engineer.

Wen-Hsien Chuang (Ph.D. '05, electrical engineering) has received an Intel Achievement Award, the highest honor an Intel employee can achieve.

Jacob Cowperthwaite (M.S. '05, electrical engineering) is a hardware engineer at Key Technologies in Baltimore.

Carlos Cruz (Ph.D. '08, aerospace engineering) is working in the combustion unit of Snecma's Space Engines Division in Foret de Vernon, France.

Laurie Daddino and Dan Sutermeister (both B.S. '01, aerospace engineering) are engaged to be married in May of 2009.

Neha Dua (MEng. '07) is a consultant with Entigence Corporation.

Mounya Elhilali (M.S. '03 and Ph.D. '04, electrical engineering) is an assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering at Johns Hopkins University.

Yazdan Emrani (M.S. '00, civil engineering) has been named director of public works for Monterey County in California.

Phil Friday (M.S. '00, fire protection engineering), has been named principal of Harrington Group, Inc., in Duluth, Ga.

Patricia Frounfelker (B.S. '03, biological resources engineering) was named a finalist for the Service to America Medal by the Partnership for Public Service. Patricia is an engineer with the Army Research Laboratory.

Sathya Ganesan (M.S. '04, mechanical engineering) married Kavita Kumar in Toronto in December. Ganesan is a technology development engineer for Intel in Arizona.

Muluwork Geremew (M.S. '06, electrical engineering) has been named a 2009 Most Promising Engineer. She will receive her award at the 23rd Annual Black Engineer of the Year Awards in Baltimore in February.

Anthony E. Giampapa (B.S. '07, mechanical engineering) married Allison M. Voigt (B.S. '07, elementary education) in June in the Memorial Chapel on campus. Giampapa is a project manager for John J. Kilin.

Jamie Leigh Gill (B.S. '02, civil engineering) is engaged to Josh V. Frank. Gill, who also received a B.S. in computer science from Towson University in 2003, works for URS Corp. in Hunt Valley, Md.

Elisabeth Goldwasser (B.S. '03, mechanical engineering), a member of the Engineering Alumni Chapter Board, is now a cell design engineer at SAFT America, Inc.

Nadine Gregoire (B.S. '05, mechanical engineering) is a mechanical engineer with BAE Systems.

Joseph Hartmann (B.S. '90, M.S. '95 and Ph.D. '05, civil engineering) co-authored the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) report detailing defects in the design of the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis last summer.

Robert J. Haskins (B.S. '07, electrical engineering) is working for Bechtel in Knoxville, Tenn.

John W. Hopkins (M.Eng. '00, systems engineering) has taken an assignment as managing director of operations for Northrop Grumman IT in the United Kingdom.

Gerad D. House (B.S. '03, mechanical engineering) received his M.S. in mechanical engineering from Johns Hopkins University this past May. He is a project manager with the Applied Physics Lab at Johns Hopkins.

Joel Keels (M.S. '05, civil engineering) has been promoted to vice president by KCI Technologies Inc. in Hunt Valley, Md.

Abhinav Joshi (M.S. '02, systems engineering) is a reference architect in NetApp's virtualization and grid infrastructure business unit.

Nia Kelley (B.S. '00, electrical engineering) earned an M.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, with a concentration in software engineering in 2007. She works for IBM as a project office manager.

Dae Whan Kim (Ph.D. '07, mechanical engineering) has joined Samsung Electronics Co. in Korea as a principal engineer.

Jeffrey K. Kirkpatrick (B.S. '07, aerospace engineering) is a flight test engineer for DCS Corp.

Andrew Kohout (B.S. '06, fire protection engineering and mechanical engineering) works at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, LNG Engineering Branch, and has recently finished serving on the technical panel on a Fire Protection Research Foundation 2007 report "Evaluating Vapor Dispersion Models for Safety Analysis for LNG Facilities." He will continue on for the second phase of the study alongside Associate Professor Arnaud Trouvé.

Emin Kutay (M.S. '02 and Ph.D. '05, civil engineering) has joined the faculty of Michigan State University's civil and environmental engineering department as an assistant professor.

Andres Kwasinski (M.S. '00 and Ph.D. '04, electrical engineering) has joined the faculty of the Rochester Institute of Technology Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering.

Marcus LaChapelle (B.S. '01, biological resources engineering) received a doctorate of pharmacy degree from the University of Maryland at Baltimore in 2007 and runs Broadneck Pharmacy with his father in Broadneck, Md.

Daniel Landau (B.S. '06, electrical engineering) is a consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton. He was married in August to Colleen Torke. The couple lives in North Bethesda, Md.

Daniel Jacob Laskowitz (B.S. ' 05, mechanical engineering) married Jill Marie Thomas in a ceremony in New Providence, N.J., last year.

Christopher Lombardo (B.S. '05, electrical engineering and physics) is a graduate research assistant at the University of Texas at Austin in their electrical engineering department.

Brent Machado (B.S. '03, chemical engineering) is a development engineer with W. R. Grace & Co. in Baltimore.

Amit Mahadevia (M.Eng. '07, civil engineering) is a civil engineer with URS in Gaithersburg, Md.

John C. March (Ph.D. '05, chemical engineering) has received a $100,000 grant from the Hartwell Foundation for work he is performing as an assistant professor of biological and environmental engineering at Cornell University.

Nicholas Meade (B.S. '03, computer engineering) reports he is married with two children – a son, Brent, and a daughter, Brielle. He is a Baptist minister.

David Mihok (B.S. '06, mechanical engineering) is a liaison engineer with Boeing.

Michelle Murray (B.S. '00, aerospace engineering) has been appointed program manager for the Federal Aviation Administration's Office of Commercial Space Transportation Experimental Permit program for research and development of reusable launch vehicles.

Michael S. Nye (B.S. '03, civil engineering) has earned his professional engineering license from the State of Maryland.

Rodney Oddoye (B.S. '02, electrical engineering) received a Modern Day Technology Leadership Award at the Black Engineer of the Year awards ceremony last month. Oddoye works as a senior engineer for BGE.

Steven R. O'Hara (B.S. '03 and M.S. '05, mechanical engineering) is a test lab supervisor for Eaton Corporation in Beltsville, Md.

Michael Sean Parker (B.S. '05, mechanical engineering) married UM alumna Keemia Leigh Khazeh in June. The couple lives in Laurel, Md.

Thomas Platt (B.S. '08, fire protection engineering) is a consultant with Global Risk Consultants in Clark, N.J.

Kurleigh Prescod (M.S. '03, telecommunications engineering) is general manager of Columbus Communications Grenada Limited in Grenada.

Andrew and Amanda (Gable) Radcliffe (both B.S. '03, civil engineering) married in July 2007. He is an engineer with Loiederman Soltesz Associates and she is an engineer with the Frederick County (Md.) Division of Public Works Office of Transportation Engineering. Also, Andrew has earned his professional engineering license from the State of Maryland. The couple lives in Frederick.

Vahid Reza Ramezani (B.S. '89, M.S. '94 and Ph.D. '01, electrical engineering) is an artist (in addition to being an engineer) whose work has been displayed at the Isfahan Museum of Modern Art.

Ana Luis Ramirez (B.S. '05, electrical engineering) is working at Northrop Grumman Electronic Systems as a systems engineer.

Justin Reid (B.S. '04, fire protection engineering) is a project engineer for RLH Fire Protection in Van Nuys, Calif.

Rafael Rodriguez-Cambero (M.Eng. '07) was recently listed in the 2009 edition of Who's Who in America.

Kenneth E. Savisaar (B.S. '95, mechanical engineering, and M.E. '00) is now branch head of drive systems and propellers for the U.S. Navy in Patuxent River, Md.

Kevin Schoonover (B.S. '06, aerospace engineering) is a preliminary design project engineer with Clark School Corporate Partner ATK.

Courtney Schultz (B.S. '01, fire protection engineering) has been hired as a senior fire protection engineer by Commercial Construction Consulting, Inc. in Boston, Mass.

David E. Scott (B.S. '85, civil engineering, and M.Eng. '00) has been appointed director of public works for the city of Baltimore.

Karim Seddik (M.S. '07 and Ph.D. '08, electrical engineering) has accepted a position as assistant professor of electrical engineering at Alexandria University in Egypt.

Stephen J. Stafford (B.S. '03, electrical engineering) is engaged to UM alumna Amanda Beth Harrison (B.S. '03, transportation and logistics, and marketing).

Michael Stanfield (M.S. '02, aerospace engineering) is a U.S. Navy F/A 18 pilot who just returned from a seven-month deployment.

Brian T. Stanley (B.S. '98, civil engineering, and M.Eng. '03) has been promoted to vice president and shareholder of SMA Consulting Structural Engineers in Richmond, Va.

Russ Stein (B.S. '01, mechanical engineering) is a mechanical engineer with Clark School Corporate Partner ATK, where he works with Tim Cole (see above) and 20 other Clark School alumni ranging from the classes of 1970 to 2008.

Michael Swallop (B.S. '07, civil engineering) is a design engineer with HMB Professional Engineers, Inc., in Nashville, Tenn.

Hark Tagunicar (B.S. '04, computer engineering) is a software engineer with SAIC. As previously mentioned, he is Student Outreach Committee chair for the Engineering Alumni Chapter Board.

Mahamane Toure (B.S. '02, aerospace engineering) is an aerospace engineer for the Federal Aviation Administration.

Eric Traenkner (B.S. '02, civil engineering) is a project engineer for BP Barber in Charleston, S.C.

Shih-Huang Tung (Ph.D. '07, chemical engineering) is an assistant professor in the Institute for Polymer Science and Engineering at National Taiwan University.

Brian D. Vandervort (B.S. '06, fire protection engineering, and B.A. '06, criminology and criminal justice) is a fire protection engineer with EBL Engineers in Bethesda, Md.

David A. Vess (B.S. '00, mechanical engineering, and M.Eng. '04) is a test engineer for Northrop Grumman.

Todd M. Wallenstein (B.S. '00, biological resources engineering) received his M.S. in mechanical engineering from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and is a project engineer for K2M in Leesburg, Va.

Jingtao Wang (M.S. '02, chemical engineering) has been appointed an associate professor in the School of Chemical Engineering at Tianjin University in China.

Xiangrong Zhou (Ph.D. '08, electrical engineering) has accepted a faculty position at the University of Hawaii.

Xuesong Zhou (Ph.D. '04, civil engineering) is an assistant professor at the University of Utah where he is working on a car key that prevents teenage drivers from using a cell phone while driving.
