Naba Barkakati (Ph.D. '83, electrical engineering) has a new book out—Linux All-In-One Desk Reference for Dummies—his 26th book on computers. Barkakati is a senior-level technologist with the U.S. Government Accountability Office.

Perry Bartelt (B.S. '81 and M.S. '83, civil engineering) is head of snow and avalanche research at the Swiss Federal Institute.

Steven D. Behrens (B.S. '81, aerospace engineering) is a logistics management specialist with the U.S. Naval Air Systems Command in Patuxent River, Md.

M. Judson Brown (B.S. '82, mechanical engineering) is a senior engineer with Sack & Associates Consulting Engineers, PLLC, in their mechanical division.

John J. Buckley, Jr. (B.S. '83, mechanical engineering) has been appointed vice president of engineering and manufacturing in electronic systems at Northrop Grumman.

Charles Budman (B.S. '86 and M.S. '88, aerospace engineering) is a member of the Principal Professional Staff and is program manager for the Navy Strategic Systems Programs' Systems Engineering & Integration Program at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory. He is also an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Edward Bursk (B.S. '81, electrical engineering) has been named chief marketing officer of KORE Telematics.

Carol Caldwell (B.S. '81, fire protection engineering) lives in Christchurch, New Zealand with her husband, Charley Fleischmann (B.S. '85, civil engineering and fire protection engineering). Caldwell now runs her own business after having worked for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories and Sandia National Laboratories. Patricia Callahan (B.S. '89, engineering) has joined ThedaCare Physicians in Appleton, Wisc., as a pediatrician.

Keith Chamberlin (B.S. '88, electrical engineering) is an aerospace engineer for NASA at Goddard Space Flight Center.

Kwang-Cheng Chen (M.S. '87 and Ph.D. '89, electrical engineering) is the co-author of a new book, Mobile WiMAX.

Craig P. Christenson (B.S. '85, fire protection engineering) has been named the Department of Energy (DOE)'s Federal Engineer of the Year. He is a fire protection engineer for the DOE Office of River Protection in the state of Washington.

Tim Cole (B.S. '85, mechanical engineering), a manager with Clark School Corporate Partner ATK Space, led a team of engineers who developed 45 new tools for the upcoming STS-125 Hubble Servicing Mission 4. He and Russ Stein (below) both wrote to tell us that their team consists of more than 20 Clark School alumni.

Brenda Cornish-Freeman (B.S. '87, chemical engineering, and MBA, '91) has joined the TBS network as chief marketing officer for Turner Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media. Freeman is a member of the Clark School's Women in Engineering Advisory Board.

Richard Decker (B.S. '81, mechanical engineering) has been appointed technical director of the Army's Edgewood Chemical Biological Center at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

Pete Distler (M.S. '84, electrical engineering) is president of Smarter Agent, LLC.

Steve Eberly (B.S. '87, mechanical engineering) is a senior program manager at Ingersoll Rand/Thermo King Corporation.

Dwight Emory (B.S. '89, civil engineering) is a civil engineer with the Garrett County (Md.) Roads Department.

Reza Ghanadan (B.S. '88, M.S. '90 and Ph.D. '93, electrical engineering) has been named an Engineering Fellow at BAE Systems.

Joseph E. Gott (B.S. '81, fire protection engineering) has been installed as a member of the Senior Executive Service. He is chief engineer and director of capital improvements at the Naval Facilities Engineering Command in Washington, D.C.

Thomas Herald (M.S. '86, electrical engineering) has been named a Lockheed Martin Fellow, in recognition of technical achievement and his contributions to the company, where he has worked for more than 25 years.

Alejandro Hermoza (B.S. '85 and M.S. '86, mechanical engineering) has been appointed vice president of community relations for Buenaventura, Peru's largest publicly traded metals mining company.

Reggie Holt (B.S. '89 and M.S. '94, civil engineering) is the other co-author of the NTSB report detailing defects in the design of the I-35W bridge in Minneapolis last summer. Holt is a senior structural engineer for the Federal Highway Administration.

Lee F. Jones (M.S. '83, electrical engineering) has joined Cardrunners as chief operating officer.

Thomas W. Jones (B.S. '83, civil engineering) has been named chief of budget and programs for the U.S. Coast Guard headquarters in Washington, D.C. Previously, he was in command of the Coast Guard Research and Development Center.

Douglas H. Kanter (B.S. '86, civil engineering) is a principal with Statewide Properties of Roseland, N.J.

Brian Kiviat (B.S. '85, aerospace engineering) has been named special assistant for technology development and transition to the assistant secretary for research, development and acquisition of the Navy.

Chris Konkol (M.S. '80, chemical engineering) has joined intellectual property law firm Cantor Colburn as counsel.

Joseph (Joe) Krolak (B.S. '84, civil engineering) is a hydraulic engineer with the Federal Highway Administration's Office of Bridge Technology.

Pravin Kumar (B.S. '85, electrical engineering) has been appointed vice president of products and technology for Salesgenie.com.

Thomas H. Levi (B.S. '82, electrical engineering) is a systems analyst.

Pang Yen Lin (M.S. '88, civil engineering) has joined Parsons Brinckerhoff in Seattle as a supervising structural engineer.

Richard M. Liu (M.S. '88, electrical engineering, and MBA ' 91) is vice president of engineering for NavAsic Microelectronics, Inc.

Thomas G. Mason (B.S. '89, electrical engineering and physics), a professor of physics and chemistry and biochemistry at UCLA, has an exhibit of his research on display in New York City's Museum of Modern Art. He studies particles in viscous liquid.

Lawrence A. McKenna (B.S. '82, fire protection engineering) is employed with the U.S. Fire Administration.

Carolyn Merry (Ph.D. '88, civil engineering) has been elected vice president of the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. She is professor and chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Geodetic Science at Ohio State University.

Gary Meyers (B.S. '86, electrical engineering) has been appointed to the board of directors of Exar Corporation.

Vahid Motevalli (B.S. '83, M.S. '85 and Ph.D. '89, mechanical engineering) has been named associate provost for research and graduate studies at Dubai Aerospace Enterprise University.

Michael Nusca (B.S. '82, M.S. '86 and Ph.D. '97, aerospace engineering), an aerospace engineer at the Army Research Laboratory (ARL), was recently presented with the Superior Civilian Service Award and Medal by ARL Director John M. Miller (B.S. '69, aerospace engineering, and M.S. '74, mechanical engineering).

Vahid Reza Ramezani (B.S. '89, M.S. '94 and Ph.D. '01, electrical engineering) is an artist (in addition to being an engineer) whose work has been displayed at the Isfahan Museum of Modern Art.

Gordon B. Richman (B.S. '84, chemical engineering) is vice president for regulatory compliance of Fisher & Paykel Healthcare in Irvine, Calif.

Alan Rosenberg (B.S. '83, chemical engineering) has been named president of Business Only Broadband, a carrier-class wireless provider for the financial sector and other large enterprise clients.

Carl Stahle (B.S. '81, electrical engineering) is assistant chief for technology for NASA Goddard Space Flight Center's Instrument Systems and Technology Division.

Peter Stea (B.S. '82, electrical engineering) is the new president of information technology services at L-1 Identity Solutions, Inc.

Zachary Stern (M.S. '86, electrical engineering) is a patent attorney with Oblon, Spivak, McClelland & Neustadt, P.C.

Kuansan Wang (M.S. '89 and Ph.D. '94, electrical engineering) is a principal researcher for Microsoft.

Fateh N. Wattar (Ph.D. '82, civil engineering), of Hill International, a construction risk management company, has been promoted to vice president of operations for Northern Emirates, UAE.

Jeff Weikert (B.S. '85, mechanical engineering) is vice president of midrange engineering at Cummins, Inc. in Indiana.

Peggy White (B.S. '84, civil engineering) is director of design for civil engineering consulting firm christopher consultants, ltd., of Columbia, Md. White is licensed in four states and is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Capital Building Industry Association.
