Chip Badger (M.S. '76, civil engineering) has been named director of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation by Virginia Gov. Timothy Kaine.

Vincent H. Berg (B.S. '73 and M.S. '77, civil engineering) has received the "Watershed Hero" award for his work with the Middle Potomac Tributary Team of the Maryland Bay Restoration Program.

Robert Bernhard (M.S. '76, mechanical engineering) who is vice president of research at University of Notre Dame, has been named to the board of directors of power company Cummins Inc. in Columbus, Ind.

John Chino (M.S. '73, mechanical engineering) has been named vice president of programs, quality and engineering at Clark School Corporate Partner Northrop Grumman.

Protagoras "Tag" Cutchis (B.S. '79, electrical engineering and physics, and M.S. '90, electrical engineering) has been named among the "Most Intriguing Baltimoreans" by Baltimore Magazine. He is a licensed physician.

Victor K. Der (B.S. '72, M.S. '73 and Ph.D. '78, mechanical engineering) has been named principal deputy assistant secretary for fossil energy by the Department of Energy.

Daniel B. Dobry, Jr. (B.S. '76, civil engineering) has joined civil engineering firm Croy Engineering LLC in Marietta, Ga., as a traffic engineering manager.

Michael Ficco (B.S. '74 and M.S. '77, electrical engineering) is the author of What Every Engineer Should Know About Career Management.

Michael Griffin (Ph.D. '77, aerospace engineering), head of NASA, was recently honored by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) along with his co-author on Space Vehicle Design, 2nd Edition. The AIAA gave the two its Summerfield Book Award.

Richard W. Haviland (B.S. '75, civil engineering) has been named senior vice president for construction and major projects at Duke Energy.

John Miller (B.S. '69, aerospace engineering, and M.S. '74, mechanical engineering), director of the Army Research Laboratory, received a Presidential Rank Award in 2007 in the Meritorious Executive category.

David P. Mongan (B.S. '71 and M.S. '76, civil engineering) served as the distinguished speaker at "An Evening at the Jefferson," an event hosted by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Mongon is ASCE president.

Sarah Navid (B.S. '75, geography, and M.S. '77, civil engineering) has received the Maryland Business and Industry Association, Montgomery County branch, Quality of Life Award for her work with the Department of Permitting Services.

Dennis Nolan (B.S. '77, fire protection engineering) recently had his sixth book published by William Andrew Applied Science Publishers – Safety and Security Review for the Process Industry.

Albert Owens (B.S. '71, aerospace engineering) has retired after 30 years with the former Hughes Aircraft Co. and is currently doing consulting work.

C.J. "Chuck" Powers (B.S. '77, agricultural engineering) is global director of water resource industry and product management for Flowserve Corp.'s pump division.

David R. Sadowski (B.S. '75 and M.S. '77, chemical engineering) has been appointed assistant vice president of intellectual property management and commercialization at the University of Rhode Island.

William J. Schaefer (B.S. '70 and M.S. '72, electrical engineering) has been appointed vice president of business development for integrated systems at Northrop Grumman.

Roland Sorensen (B.S. '72, mechanical engineering) is a process engineer for Fasloc, Inc. He adds that his stepson, Aaron Pimentil, graduated "best in show" with a B.A. in computer graphic design from the Art Institute in Houston, Texas.

Dan Tuchler (B.S. '79, electrical engineering) has been hired as vice president of strategy and product management of BLADE Network Technologies in Santa Clara, Calif.

Michael T. Zuckerman (B.S. '78, electrical engineering) has joined I-many as senior vice president for marketing. I-many provides advanced contract lifecycle management solutions for managing corporate commitments.
