You're Invited: Innovation Hall of Fame and White Symposium, October 16

Are you ready to innovate? Join us on October 16 at 4:30 p.m. in the Kim Building's Innovation Hall of Fame as we induct 2006 honoree Rajiv Laroia, M.S. '89 and Ph.D. '92, electrical engineering. Following the ceremony, at 5 p.m., Dr. Laroia will participate in the Charles and Helen White Symposium on Engineering Innovation with keynote speaker Barry West of Sprint Nextel and Andrew Viterbi of QUALCOMM. Faculty and Staff Convocation Honors Fourney and Wallace

Mechanical engineering professors William Fourney and James Wallace were honored at this year's Faculty and Staff Convocation on September 26. Prof. Fourney received the President's Medal for his contributions to the campus. Prof. Wallace received the Kirwan Undergraduate Education Award for his work with programs like CORE, Gemstone and College Park Scholars.

Outstanding Faculty and Staff Retirees Recognized

On September 18, the Clark School honored the commitment of several recent faculty and staff retirees. The honorees included Becky Chavarria, David Holloway, Sylvia Keane, Chi H. Lee, Louis Robinson, Jr., Rex L. Root, Marvin Roush, Arnold Seigel, Nancy Swader and W. Travis Walton. Mark Shayman, associate dean for faculty affairs, presided over the ceremony held at the plaza in front of Glenn L. Martin Hall. The honorees' names were carved into the fountain that graces the plaza.

Thales Communications Day—Opportunities for Experienced Engineers

New Whiting-Turner Lectures: Digene November 16, Cisco December 7

The Fall 2006 Whiting-Turner Business and Entrepreneurial Lecture Series will kick off November 16 with Evan Jones of Digene. The second lecture of the semester will be delivered by Kathy Hill of Cisco Systems on December 7. Lectures are held at 5 p.m. in the Kim Engineering Building Lecture Hall. Alumni Notes

Tershia Ann Pinder, B.S. '99 fire protection engineering, received her doctorate in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Her dissertation was “Experimental Investigation of the Effects of Fuel Concentration and Velocity Fluctuations on Nonpremixed Flames.”

The Clark School Mourns the Passing of ...

Last month we learned of the passing of alumnus Edward Bartoo (B.S. '34 electrical engineering), who died in November of 2005. His wife, Jean, informed us that he was a NASA engineer who worked on the space shuttles and that he was nearly 92 when he passed away.
