New Chairs for Aerospace Engineering and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering

The Clark School has completed its searches for two department chairs. Joseph Schork (left), of the Georgia Institute of Technology, will become chair of the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering on October 1. Clark School Professor Darryll J. Pines (right) will take the helm of aerospace engineering on October 15.

Clark School Presents New "Transforming Energy" Lecture Series

A new "Transforming Energy" Lecture Series will begin in September. Jefferson Tester of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology will deliver the inaugural lecture on September 15 at 2 p.m. in the Kim Engineering Building lecture hall.

Alumni Notes

Chris Broderick, B.S. ’96 aerospace engineering and mathematics, has been named chief executive officer of CoreStreet, a worldwide provider of software for credential programs.

Mark Huston, B.S. ’85 mechanical engineering and a member of the Clark School's Board of Visitors, has been named chief operating officer for Constellation Energy’s retail energy subsidiary, Constellation NewEnergy.

Robert L. Mitchell, B.S. ’59 electrical engineering, was inducted into the National Housing Hall of Fame. Mitchell is a home builder and developer based in Rockville, Md. He also is serves as secretary for the University System of Maryland Board of Regents.

Ryan Schoonmaker, B.S. ’04 mechanical engineering, received a M.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Tufts University. He has accepted a project engineer position with Helbling Precision Engineering, an engineering services company that specializes in medical device product development.

Michael Stanbro, B.S. ’05 mechanical engineering, has turned his senior design project into a life’s mission—converting cars to run on used vegetable oil. His work was recently featured in The Annapolis Capital.

The Clark School Mourns the Passing of...

Over the past two months, we have said goodbye to alumni William Gavaghan (M.S. ’68 electrical engineering), Edward M. Herrmann (M.S. ’70 and Ph.D. ’73 mechanical engineering), Mark Mowery (B.S. ’80 and M.S. ’84 mechanical engineering) and Derek Hans Blume (B.S. ’03 computer engineering).
