About Us

With some 4500 students, 200 tenured and tenure-track faculty members and facilities in more than 14 buildings on the College Park campus of the University of Maryland, the A. James Clark School of Engineering can seem overwhelming at first, whether you're a student, faculty member, returning alumnus or alumna, or colleague from business or government.

But while there certainly is a large contingent of engineers here, and an incredible array of opportunities for lab and classroom work, it is not difficult to break these components down into more manageable groups, and make the school easier to access and navigate. To begin this process, try these:

  • Meet Dean Herbert Rabin
  • Clark School Administration
The school's administration can help explain the school's activities and organization and point you toward additional resources and people who can help you find what you need.
  • Clark School Student Ambassadors
Hear what Clark School Student Ambassadors have to say about their experiences here. Some ambassadors have agreed to allow interested people to contact them via e-mail.
  • Departments, Institutes and Centers
Get a feeling for how the school is organized and learn whom to contact for further exploration.
  • Corporate Partners Program
Our Corporate Partners can obtain preferential and expedited access to faculty and students for research collaborations and to students and alumni for recruitment.

Meet Student Ambassador
Kara Lushbaugh

Major: Mechanical Engineering

"The Clark School has presented me with amazing educational opportunities, mainly through the Research Internships in Science and Engineering (RISE) Program . The program is geared towards retaining women in engineering and the sciences and to present research opportunities to students of all ages. I started research even before my first semester and started materials research with Dr. Lourdes Salamanca-Riba the following summer. Both of my parents graduated from the university (my father is a mechanical engineer), so I started going to football and basketball games as a kid. When I am not at games, I love to spend weekends in the Smithsonian museums or the monuments."
