Officer Descriptions

   
   


Why run for a position? Being a board member helps improve your organizational, leadership, communication skills and you will be able to network with lots of staff, faculty and students. And much more! You must be a SWE member and support all SWE activities. Also, being a member of the board guarantees you a funding to go to the Regional Conference usually held in March/April.

Executive positions must be able to meet weekly to discuss events. Chairs meet with Execs approximately every other week. Execs and Chairs must make it to the General Body Meetings!

Nominations will begin after Spring Break and Elections following that. SWE Positions available for School Year 2008-2009.

 

Executive Positions

President
    • coordinate activities with the board members
    • arrange rooms for events and invite speakers
    • attend conference events
    • recruit members to go to conference events
    • liaison to ESC Rep and Webmaster

Vice President

    • assumes responsibilities of the President when President is unavailable
    • promote and organize SWE activities
    • assist the President and other board members
    • make GBM agendas
    • liaison to Discover Engineering Chair and Resume CD Chair

Treasurer
    • write SGA primary and secondary budget
    • maintain SWE Chevy Chase bank acct - plan ahead from programs (National/Regional Conference, Discover Engineering, etc)
    • write letters for sponsorship from companies
    • liaison to Hot Dog and Fundraising Chair
    • maintain fundraising in SWE Lounge

Secretary
    • creating weekly meeting agendas
    • taking meeting notes and distributing them via email
    • sending out thank you notes/letters to sponsor companies
    • sending out SWE-zine emails
    • keep track of new Student member SIDs to give to Paige to update door
    • liaison to Membership Chair and Publicity Chair

 

Chair Positions

Corporate Relations Chair

  • Communicates with companies about events and fundraisers
  • Organizes SWE sponsored company talks
  • Acts as liaison between SWE and our corporate sponsors

Membership  Chair
  • put together member applications to send to National SWE HQ
  • work with treasurer to write checks to National SWE HQ
  • keep tally of SWE Stars
  • recruit members

Outreach Chair
  • Assist in overall coordination of Discover Engineering
  • Send letters to high schools advertising DE
  • Develop schedule and activities for program, includes inviting speakers

Social Chair
  • Copy and post flyers for SWE events
  • Send emails through SWE listserv to announce events/forward to WIE FYI and/or ENGR FYI
  • Develop schedule and activities for program, includes inviting speakers

Webmaster
  • Maintain web site, keep up-to-date info on website
  • MUST ATTEND WEEKLY BOARD MEETINGS to receive updates to display on website


ESC Representative

  • Must attend biweekly Engineering Council meetings (Meeting times for next year TBA)
  • Report and ESC events to SWE exec board
  • Announce SWE Events at ESC meetings
