Elections!

Welcome to the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) at the University of Maryland, College Park!

April 10, 2008

Dear SWE Members,

Lately I have received many questions about how to become a member of SWE.  First, if you receive emails from SWE then you are considered a local member of our College Park chapter.  This means that you are on our listserv and are welcome to attend any of our meetings (of course, all of our meetings are open to everyone- not just to people on the listserv!). If you do not currently receive emails about upcoming events and would like to, please email me (ewhyms@umd.edu)!

We highly encourage all of our local members to also become national members.  National members enjoy the benefits of being able to attend SWE Conferences, opportunities to receive scholarships, and access to our awesome lounge!  All of our elected officers are required to be national members.

To become a national member, all you need to do is fill out a membership application and pay $20 per fiscal school year. Applications can be found in the lounge and online at the national web page: Application- click here!.

Please drop off your application in the lounge with a check made out to "Society of Women Engineers" or you may give cash to any SWE officer.  If you would like access to our lounge, please email me (ewhyms@umd.edu) with your name, UID, and SWE Membership Number.

If you have any other questions, just send me an email!

Elizabeth Whyms

Membership Coordinator

New Members

New SWE members should have access to the SWE lounge.  If you do not have access to the lounge or if you would like to receive periodic emails from SWE, please email our Membership Coordinator, Elizabeth (ewhyms@umd.edu). For lounge access, please include your UID in the email.

Prospective SWE Members

To join SWE, you can simply click on SWE Application to fill out an application online, or you can fill out a paper copy of the application, available outside our lounge (0114 Martin Hall).

You can drop off your application and membership fee ($20/year) in the box conveniently located outside our lounge and we'll take care of your membership for you!

Don't forget to write your Student ID No. on the application, so we can give you access to the lounge.

Feel free to contact Rachel Emmel (
remmel@umd.edu) if you have any questions!
