About Us
The Hierarchical,
Asynchronous and Multimedia Learning using Electronic Textbooks:
HAMLET was started with stated purpose To introduce visualization,
simulation and animation tools through a web-based environment to
complement and enhance traditional techniques used in teaching and
learning.
The HAMLET
initiative aimed at creating an environment that utilizes information
technology to materially enhance the learning experience of students.
The goal of this effort is to develop a web-based tool to complement
traditional mechanisms used in teaching and learning. This tool
will provide an environment for students to conduct virtual experiments
as well as utilize visualization, simulation and animation tools
to supplement the classroom lecture and traditional textbooks. Additionally,
it will allow students to learn essential concepts at their own
pace. The project will begin with courses in the Department of Electrical
and Computer Engineering where it impacted the learning experience
of more than 1000 undergraduate students. It has now gradually extended
to other programs in the School of Engineering. We believe that
this project can become a model for similar programs in other educational
institutions throughout the nation.
